ask the vet
Question:
My dog’s eyes weep or have a discharge. Should I be concerned?
Answer:
Many breeds have runny or weepy eyes and this is considered quite common (for example Pugs and Shih Tzus). Clear (or serous) discharge is considered benign as long as the whites of the eyes (sclera) are not red.
If the discharge is mucoid (goopy or crusty) or purulent (pus-like), or the eyes are red or squinty then you should consult your veterinarian.
