Impulse after coming home from surgeryYou heard about my big ow I had with my knee. Mom says I torn my cruciate ligament in my knee. When I first went to see my doctor, Dr. Vihos at the Downtown Animal Hospital, who I just love, (cause she gets down on the floor with me and loves me up good, and even gives me liver treats before she pokes me) she looked after me and took xrays and found out what happened to my leg. Then she gave my mom the bad news about needing to have surgery to fix it.

It took a couple weeks to get a surgery date, because the surgeon was away that could do the surgery. But he finally came back and on Dec. 8th my mom took me in the day before surgery. I wasn't scared at all really. I didn't really know what would happen to me, mom just said they'd fix me up good. The next day, I had my surgery.

Before surgery mom was really worried because my pet insurance company said that they would not pay for the surgery. They said that because my accident wasn't with a car I wasn't going to be covered...and mom said it was an expensive surgery. Over $2000.

Mom was so upset, because I have had pet insurance since I was just little, and I am 9 now, and I have been a very healthy dog all my life. So, she never expected that they would not cover it. A good friend of hers talked to her own Pet Insurance company, called Petsecure Pet Health Insurance . She told them all about my mom and about who she is and how she is always doing things for other people, and told them about me, how I was a healthy dog who had a simple accident and asked them to help me to get my surgery.

And guess what? They said they would be happy to cover my surgery. Can you believe that? When mom read the email she got from Petsecure Pet Health Insurance  out loud - I woofed in excitement....if I could have jumped up and down and spun around I would have!

Mom says it's like an early Christmas present and mini-miracle, 'cause that just doesn't happen in the Insurance world. Most companies treat you just like our old company did...like a number and so impersonal... - harumph - I don't think they "care" at all. They didn't care about me or my mom, or the fact that she had paid for years every month faithfully, and was a loyal client. They didn't "care" if we were their client or not. I heard the voicemail they left when they rejected my claim...they actually gave my mom instructions on how to cancel her policy! They didn't care at all.

But Petsecure Pet Health Insurance is a different kind of company. After talking with our friend, Anita - Boss' mom - the staff at Petsecure Pet Health Insurance decided to do the unthinkable...they decided they would cover the cost of my surgery - even though my mom was not their client, and had never paid them a penny. I love Petsecure Pet Health Insurance  for doing that, and their staff for caring about me. It made my mom so happy and so much less worried about how she would pay for such a big surgery. She felt secure after that email. And I got a whole bunch of belly rubs while she told me all about it!

My mom said she immediately called and cancelled my old insurance, and has moved me to Petsecure Pet Health Insurance . I like this, because I know my friend Boss is also covered by Petsecure Pet Health Insurance  and has had to use his policy for some health problems he has had, and Petsecure Pet Health Insurance has always treated him well, and covered everything he has had to have done, and I know his mom loves him enough to have the best insurance coverage she can for him....Petsecure.

I thought I would include some pictures my mom took of my leg the day I got home - four days after I went into the hospital. I was totally out of it - they gave me some pain meds that made me sleepy. I was so happy to come home and stretch out on the big king sized bed. Mom didn't let me stay there by myself though, cause I am on 4-6 weeks of strict bed rest and she was worried I would jump off the bed and hurt my leg again or something like that.

So, I was on the bed long enough to get a belly rub and for mom to look at my staples in my leg. 8 staples. I know this cause mom counted them. But, then a couple days later, mom counted again, and found only 7. Ooops....I licked at them and licked one right out! That night my other mom came home and put a big plastic thing around my neck. She called it the "cone of shame". It stopped me from licking my leg, but also from licking other parts too, and from being able to scratch my ears or anything - I was not all that impressed! I did not like the cone of shame - not one bit. I told my mom she wasn't allowed to put any pictures up of me wearing the cone, cause I looked so silly. Not princess-like at all! I have now gotten my staples out and the cone of shame is no more! Woof!

Speaking of not princess-like...wow, what a shave-job they had to do on my lovely fur coat! I am so embarassed when I go outside. Mom said that the saddle shave on my side was for the pain patch they had to put on while I was in the hospital. I wore it for a couple days after surgery. It was a bit itchy after they took the patch off, but it's all better now, and not itchy anymore. I just wish my fur would grow back f-a-s-t, this haircut is ruining my image as the ultimate princess.

Soon, I hope, I will be back to normal. I hop on three legs right now when I have to go anywhere, but slowly I am able to put my foot down once in a while if I am walking really slowly.

I can't wait to be back running again and playing, cause the snow is coming soon, and I l-o-v-e the snow and running and playing in it and making doggie snow angels.

I wanted to give a high paw to Petsecure and a big wag and wet sloppy kisses (lots of them) to Mika and Sarah for being so generous to me, and to Anita for asking Petsecure to help me. If any of you don't have pet insurance yet, you should. And I give Petsecure Pet Health Insurance two paws up, and think you should check out their policies if you're looking for a flexible plan with different levels of coverage for either your dog or your cat.

This was the best Christmas Present ever! Merry Christmas everyone!

Woof,
