boss' blog
As some of you have read, Boss was recently sick.
He was diagnosed with pancreatitis and the belief is that he got into some spoiled food or dirty water or something toxic at some point.
This to me, like any pet owner, was horrible to hear. I make sure his water dishes are always full with clean water and take care when selecting treats and dog food. I read the labels carefully and try to make the best choices I can. He is a little guy, so I try to limit his treats as it does not take many to equal an entire meal for my little guy.
This medical adventure taught me that I need to keep an even closer eye on what my dog is getting into.
Remember to always make sure that your pets have access to clean water in good supply. Especially with the summer weather. The water will keep them hydrated and help flush any impurities from their systems.
For now, Boss continues to take life a bit easier and has about another week on his medications. He is on a new food for the time being which is quite low on fat to put less stress on his body. The doctor at North Town Veterinary Hospital told us something we did not know. Boss used to get a 'bone' cookie in the morning when he came in from his walk and another one after his evening walk. For now he is not getting them because they are actually coated in fat to make them palatable to dogs. After they are prepared, they are sprayed with a layer of fat as if not, dogs would not find them as exciting. This was something I found quite shocking.
Again, it highlights the need to closely read the labels of the dog and cat food and treats you get for your pets. They can't.
We carry only treats we feel add to your pet's health. We are very selective. For now, we have two types of treats for dogs.
Our salmon treats offer your pet delicious, appealing treats packed with omega fatty acids and protein. They contain one ingredient -- salmon. The salmon is wild Norwegian salmon which is reported to be lower in mercury levels.
Our liver treats are irresistible to dogs! They contain one ingredient - liver AND it is human grade liver! It is made in Canada and is human grade liver.....you could eat it yourself! We like that. We do not like treats and pet foods that are made of the waste and scraps from human food production. We think our pets deserve better.
Be well. Make healthy choices for you and your furkids!
